Economics & Environment
PV solar is a cost effective clean source of power, which can create jobs and move to lessen our dependence on foreign sources of energy.
PV Economics
- Ansar Energy program will build a base for future price reduction on the path to PV power grid parity with natural gas based peaking power
- PV solar power pricing in Mass. can be reduced by about 5%/ year, for a few years, as a robust market for PV power plants develops in the Commonwealth.
- Natural gas based power pricing will increase by 3% to 8% per year over the next decade.
- Natural gas based electric power pricing will increase to reflect the cost of carbon.
- Transmission congestion will continue to increase peak power pricing into Boston.
- Based on the above factors, PV solar power from in-state locations, may see grid parity with natural gas based peaking power in about 5 years.
- For Massachusetts a 3% increase in PV solar power (1,500 MW), out of a total of 15 % renewables required by 2020, will increase the average retail customer electric bill by less than 2% for about 5 years (point of grid Parity).
- After reaching grid parity, the PV based solar power will in fact be a moderating influence on future electric power prices increase from in state sources with no fuel costs and no pollution.
Impact on the Environment-PV power is Clean and is lowest type of impact power Generation technology
- No Air emissions
- No water requirements
- No solid waste
- No noise pollution
- No impact on bird or wildlife
- Low visual profile
